Please lead the way in the house for bi-partisian approach to government. It's time to have the debate conducted on the floor of congress not by pundits on the airwaves.

With H.R. 4133, United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012, you voted yes to "Offer the Israeli Air Force additional training and exercise opportunities in the United States to compensate for Israel’s limited air space." -and- "to help Israel preserve its qualitative military edge amid rapid and uncertain regional political transformation" -and- "Actions to integrate Israel into the defense of the Eastern Mediterranean." This bill states that it is the policy of the United States to "reaffirm the enduring commitment of the United States to the security of the State of Israel as a Jewish state." However, according to our Constitution the policy of the United States government should be to protect the security of the United States, not to guarantee the religious, ethnic, or cultural composition of a foreign country. This bill will not help the United States, it will not help Israel, and it will not help the Middle East. It will implicitly authorize much more US interventionism in the region at a time when we cannot afford the foreign commitments we already have. It more likely will lead to war against Syria, Iran, or both. Explain your yes vote. (Please answer me, I've called, written, visited... Facebooked... It is not possible to contact you).

Hello Congressman Gibson, First of all, thank you so much for your support of Audit the Fed. This is a very important issue to me and many other Americans, and I'm happy to know there are people in Washington interested in preserving the value of our dollar. That said, I was hoping you could answer a question for me. Would you consider sponsoring a bill that authorizes a commodity-based currency to compete with the dollar to provide the market with choices? Currently, outside of bartering, we have no choice but to use the dollar in the US to buy goods and services. As you know, the supply of dollars is controlled by the Federal Reserve. When they lower interest rates and/or bailout foreign central banks as they've done recently, they increase the money supply, which creates inflation. Inflation diminishes the value of savings of hard working Americans. Essentially, inflation is taxation, and it's most harmful to the middle class and poor. Currently, we can buy and sell commodities with dollars. However, we must pay sales tax and capital gains tax, which drastically diminishes the value of our investments. It also creates hurdles for those of us who'd like to make quick exchanges. Example: In 2004, gold was $400/oz. Today, gold is $1,600/oz. If a commodity backed currency were available in 2004, many average Americans would have been able to get through the 2008 financial crises unscathed, just by having their savings in a gold-backed currency rather than dollars. In fact, instead of losing substantial net worth, they would have had a great chance to drastically increase their net worth! The most beneficial part of a commodity backed currency would be the accountability of those at the Federal Reserve and those at Wall Street. It'd be a natural force of regulation. As I'm sure you know, competition in the market is good. We don't allow monopolies in this country on anything except our money. It's about time we change that! Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Adam R. Pensel

  4. All - I've spent the last two days visiting emergency operations centers before the storm and surveying damage after the storm (traveled through Columbia, Greene, Otsego, Delaware, and Dutchess Counties in the 20th). Without question, we were spared the devastating effects that hit further Downstate. However, there was signficant impact in some of our communities due to localized flooding along th...
e Hudson. In addition, Catskill suffered more damage, with one of the restaurants that just finished rebuilding after Hurricane Irene destroyed again. My thoughts and prayers are with those impacted as is the full attention of my staff. Please contact my office if there is anything we can do to help. We stand ready to assist.

  5. This morning, I sent a letter to President Obama supporting Governor Cuomo's request for a pre-landfall federal disaster designation for New York State. This will help ensure our localities, state, and federal entities can take the steps necessary to prepare for Hurricane Sandy.
  6. All - as you know, we have some potential serious weather coming our way. My office has prepared a list of resources as a starting point when you are looking for information. We stand ready to assist anyone who has questions or concerns, and are in continued contact with all 10 counties in our district, FEMA, New York State, and watershed management officials. I urge everyone to stay informed and listen to the advice of our state emergency management officials, your county and local officials, and first responders.
  7. Very proud and happy for the Young family as they celebrated the grand re-opening of their General Store in Prattsville. It was destroyed last August, by Hurricane Irene, and it was a true honor to be invited for the celebration. I will keep working for all the towns damaged by the storms until we are back, better than before.
