This ceremony focuses on a special group of U.S. military service members; our military medical personnel. These fallen heroes served on the battlefield both as warriors and healers, caring for their comrades in arms while risking and sacrificing their own lives. At last year's ceremony Dr. Jonathan Woodson, assistant secretary of defense for Health Affairs explained how those honored will always be remembered, "There are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who will walk this earth forever remembering the care, the dedication to a very special calling, the reassurance, the softly spoken word, that your loved one extended to them in the moment of their greatest need."
