Col. Kabrena E. Rodda is the Commander of the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. As Commander, she directs a one-year academic, military, athletic and character development program leading graduates to possible appointment as Air Force Academy cadets.
Colonel Rodda graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. She has served as a chemical research officer in various capacities throughout her career, including nine years with the intelligence community, two deployments to Iraq, an assignment as an instructor at the Air Force Academy, and as a consultant for Australian government officials on chemical disaster response for the Sydney Olympics.
She holds Master of Science degrees in chemistry from University of Washington and project and systems management from Golden Gate University and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Medicine) in forensic toxicology from Monash University.
The Prep School is Colonel Rodda's third command assignment, having previously commanded a remote seismic installation from 2005-2006 in South Korea and Headquarters Air Force Drug Testing Laboratory from 2008-2011. During her command of AFDTL, Colonel Rodda oversaw a 250-percent workload increase in the midst of planning and executing design and construction of a state-of-the-art forensic laboratory, adding 8,000 square feet of additional space and transitioning operations to the new space one month early and $3.5 million under budget.
Between her first two commands, Colonel Rodda was assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency's North Korea Intelligence Cell, followed by a 16-month joint tour working for the Director of National Intelligence's Counterproliferation Mission Manager as the Senior Military Adviser for Chemical Issues. Prominent among her duties in this capacity was her work to craft an implementation plan for the Chemical Defense Presidential Directive, which sought to integrate intelligence and law enforcement support to protect U.S. citizens, its allies and partners against the possibility of a chemical attack on U.S. soil and to institute response mechanisms should such an attack occur.
