Sergeant Major Geressy entered the Army at the age of seventeen in August 1988 as an Infantryman and graduated from OSUT at Ft Benning, Georgia. SGM Geressy is currently serving as the USSOUTHCOM Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
 
SGM Geressy has held every leadership position within Infantry units from Team Leader, Squad Leader, Sniper Squad Leader, Recon Platoon Sergeant, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Rifle Company First Sergeant, Stryker Rifle Company First Sergeant and Battalion Operations Sergeant Major for a Light Infantry Battalion.
 
SGM Geressy has served in numerous units throughout his career. They include the HHC Recon Plt 1-506th IN (AASLT) Camp Greaves Korea, HHC Recon Plt 1st Battalion 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Ft Polk, Cco 2-27th IN 25th Infantry Division Schofield Barracks Hawaii, Cco 1-504th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft Bragg, Cco 3rd Bn 187th IN, 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) at Ft Campbell, Eco 2nd Squadron 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck Germany. His Combat tours include serving as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant in Bco 2nd Bn 187th IN, 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Iraq 2003-2004, served in Baghdad and then Samarra in 2005-2006 as a Rifle Company First Sergeant with Cco 3rd Bn 187th IN, 3rd BDE, 101st Airborne Division, and again in 2007-2008 serving as a Stryker Rifle Company First Sergeant during the surge into Iraq as part of the Multi National Division Baghdad in 2007-2008 with Eagle Company, 2nd Squadron 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, and most recently served as the Battalion Operations Sergeant Major for 1st Bn 26th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Ft Knox, Kentucky.
 
SGM Geressy is a graduate of many military schools including Airborne, Air Assault, Pathfinder, PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, The First Sergeant Course, and he is a graduate of Class 59 of the U.S Army Sergeants Major Course. SGM Geressy’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy University.
 
SGM Geressy’s awards and decorations include the Combat Infantrymen’s Badge, Expert Infantrymen’s Badge, Parachutists Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, The Silver Star, The Bronze Star Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters) , the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC),  Army Achievement Medal (9 OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation ( 1 OLC) , Army Superior Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal (7th AWD), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (5th AWD), Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Non commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (with Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon (with Numeral 8).
