This report explains the new administrative direction that the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) will follow to achieve its research and evaluation goals for 1995-1996. |
Abstract:
NIJ is the research and development agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. The plan reaffirms NIJ's commitment to develop knowledge that will assist the Nation in achieving six goals: reduction in violent crime, reduction in drug- and alcohol-related crime, reduction in the consequences of crime, improvement in crime prevention, improvement in law enforcement and criminal justice, and the development of new technologies. A section of the report addresses each of these goals. Under each goal, the plan describes the purpose of related research, background information on why the goal is significant, the research areas of interest, and contact persons. The plan notes that NIJ expects to release, by mid-1995, special solicitations for research studies in four topical areas: policing, boot camps, violence against women, and treatment drug courts. NIJ is developing separate research and evaluation strategies to inform the development of these innovations and to assess the effectiveness of specific initiatives. Administrative guidelines encompass application information, recommendations to grant writers, NIJ policy regarding unsolicited proposals, and requirements for award recipients. Application forms are included. |
