Hurricane Preparedness Info

Preparation for hurricane season (June 1 - Nov. 30) is a way of life in South Florida.  This page provides tips and resources to help our SOUTHCOM family stay prepared.

  • Turn off electricity, gas; and unplug electronic equipment
  • Keep insurance policy on hand and updated
  • Carry all credit cards
  • Check food supply (canned goods are best), batteries, emergency tools and supplies.
  • Also try to keep half a tank or more of fuel in your car(s).
  • Withdraw emergency cash from ATMs early as they may become inoperable if the power goes out.
  • Plan possible escape routes
  • Monitor latest advisories
  • Leave low-lying areas
  • Leave mobile homes
  • Board windows or protect with shutters or tape
  • Secure outdoor areas
  • Store drinking water
  • Check battery-powered equipment
