9/20/2012 - MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Greetings to all retirees and families.

The MacDill Retiree Appreciation Day is now beginning to look like it will again be a great day for all of us. Oct. 20 we will have all base facilities open from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Numerous support units will again be in the Army and Air Force Exchange Service food court area. The Class Six store will also participate.

All services at the base clinic will be available, including flu shots, the Department of Veteran Affairs, TRICARE, laboratory, etc. PharmaCARE will be open until 3 p.m. on this day. The Legal Office will be open for wills and other legal functions. The Military Personnel Flight ID section will be available for ID cards. Defense Finance and Accounting Services consultation will be conducted in the same building, in the Casualty Affairs Office. The Diner's Reef dining facility will be available for breakfast 6:30-10:30 a.m., lunch 10:30 to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. for dinner.

Retirees will have the opportunity to enjoy some entertainment and recreational activities. The movie theater will offer a free viewing of the film "The Notebook" to retirees, starring James Garner and Gena Rowlands, at 1 p.m. The MacDill bowling alley will offer bowling for $1 per person, per game. Shoes will be available for $1. Efforts are being made to provide coffee and doughnut deals for bowlers and other patrons.

As a side note, there are new leagues being formed on an ongoing basis at the bowling alley. If you are interested, call 828-4005 or visit this facility to obtain registration information.

Did you know that there is a frame shop in the Exchange mall, across from the Class Six store? This facility is open every day except Sunday. If you need a picture framed or want to view new art, stop in and have a look.

According to Reuters (among other news outlets), "Walgreens, the largest U.S. drugstore chain, will be part of the broadest network of drugstores available to clients of pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts, as of Sept. 15...." This means retirees who previously had their prescriptions filled by Walgreens may again continue to do so. Be sure to confirm with your local Walgreens store about this latest change before filling your prescriptions.

Due to budget limitations, the MacDill RAO has discontinued publication of the annual Touching Base newsletter. Retirees may obtain the latest news from the web site www.macdillfss.com. In the menu area below the home page banner simply click on "Links." This will connect you to other military resources and services, including the Department of Veteran Affairs.

The RAO web page is located at the MacDill AFB web site www.macdill.af.mil. The RAO web page contains general information and links to other web sites that may be helpful to retirees.
