Research Programs & Publications

  • ClinicalTrials.gov - Provides regularly updated information about federally and privately supported clinical research on human volunteers. ClinicalTrials.gov gives you information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details. The information provided on ClinicalTrials.gov should be used in conjunction with advice from health care professionals.
  • Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) - This office originated in the early 1990s from a unique partnership among the public, Congress, and the Department of Defense to develop funding opportunities for specific diseases such as breast cancer. Over time the CDMRP has funded medical research in many diseases, conditions, and injuries. To date, CDMRP has managed more than 94 separate research programs spanning cancer research, military relevant research (such as psychological health, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Gulf War illness, etc.) and other medical conditions such as autism, neurofibromatosis, and multiple sclerosis. Research funding is achieved through a two-tiered peer review process of competitive proposals. More than 9,000 medical research grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements have received by research institutions. All of these programs are aimed at improving the health of all Americans.
  • DeployMed ResearchLINK - The Office of Force Health Protection and Readiness Policy and Programs has developed the DeployMed ResearchLINK Web site to provide information about government-funded scientific studies of medical issues experienced by military members during deployments. The site contains information on deployment health-related research within DoD, the Veterans Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services. This site is a merger of two previous Web sites: MedSearch (which was dedicated to government-sponsored research into the illnesses of Gulf War veterans) and DeployMed (which was a more expansive source of information about military deployments in general, to include the Gulf War of 1991).
  • DoD Deployment Health Clinical Center (DHCC) - The core mission of the DHCC is to improve deployment health through optimizing deployment-related healthcare across the Military Health System. This mission is accomplished through a strategy which includes Clinical and Health Services Research aimed at advancing the effective delivery of deployment-related healthcare. DHCC's deployment-related clinical research is extramurally funded and self-sustaining. DHCC has successfully completed a wide range of projects that put science behind post-deployment healthcare delivery process improvement. Projects are competitively funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, and the National Institute on Aging.
  • Health Program Analysis and Evaluation Surveys - HPA&E health care scientists collect information to measure beneficiary and staff satisfaction and to support functions such as: strategic planning and marketing; improving quality of care/access; contractual performance; and responding to MHS and DoD requests.
  • Military Infectious Diseases Research Program (MIDRP) The mission of the MIDRP is to protect the U.S. military against naturally occurring infectious diseases via the development vaccines, drugs, diagnostics and vector control protection systems. MDRP’s research is focused on needs that are, for the most part, not shared by other organizations because of the unique nature of our military operations and population. MIDRP continues to research and develop vaccines to protect service members against infectious diseases including malaria, adenovirus, HIV/AIDS, and leishmaniasis. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is a major partner in HIV/AIDS vaccine development activities.
  • Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP) - Provides biomedical solutions that protect Soldiers and enhance their performance in operational and training environments that include multiple stressors. It is a unique biomedical research program oriented towards problem-solving with a human physiology research focus.
  • Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) - Serves as a leading Medical Research laboratory for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the United States Navy. As the Military Operational Medicine research leader for the USN, NHRC's mission is to promote, protect, and maintain the health of USN and USMC personnel and beneficiaries through biomedical research and support the medical readiness of the armed services.
  • TriService Nursing Research Program - The TriService Nursing Research Program funds and supports scientific military nursing research and evidence-based practice. TSNRP is part of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. TSNRP seeks to advance military nursing science to optimize the health of military members and their families.
  • U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences - The mission of the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI) is to maximize individual and unit performance and readiness to meet the full range of Army operations through advances in the behavioral and social sciences.
  • VA Office of Research & Development - Serves as a resource for VA-funded researchers and research staff to learn of new funding opportunities, updated guidance and deadlines, and other topics of interest.
