Advanced Placement participation and scores increase in Texas

Commissioner of Education Michael L. Williams announced today that participation in Advanced Placement (AP) tests by Texas public school students was up by 4 percent in the 2011-2012 school year. According to data from the College Board, performance increased for all students by 9.1 percent, with African-American and Hispanic students showing the greatest gain in performance at 12 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively.

TEA launches college and career planning website

The Texas Education Agency today announced the launch of a new free online college and career planning website for Texas students, parents and educators. The Texas College & Career resource site, www.texascollegeandcareer.org, provides information about college options, academic and financial preparation for college, higher education admissions and career research.

Ten Texas companies have been named recipients of the State Board of Education’s Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Award for 2012.  This year several leaders of the science and energy industry were among those recognized for their continuing support of Texas public school students.
