JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. –The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) here and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) launched an educational partnership Oct. 3 with a signing ceremony at the institution’s campus.

The Educational Partnership Agreement (EPA) is intended to enhance the learning experience of students and faculty by providing them an opportunity to work with NAWCAD Lakehurst engineers, laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment related to naval aviation, Navy officials said.

“The Lakehurst engineering community benefits through mentoring the next generation of engineers who may one day seek employment with NAWCAD Lakehurst, the Navy or Department of Defense,” said Rear Adm. Randy Mahr, NAWCAD commander, whose office is headquartered at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md.

“With demographic statistics showing the U.S. declining in students who pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, we hope this EPA will prove to be a win-win effort for both the educational community and the government,” Mahr said.

NJIT students will collaborate in many engineering disciplines associated with aircraft systems and subsystems not available in a university environment. As a result, students will experience real-world technical and teamwork applications that will aid their pursuit of engineering jobs after graduation.
