NATO Headquarters Skopje was created in April 2002 by the amalgamation of two Headquarters: KFOR REAR and AMBER FOX.
As of April 1st 2012 the mission name is NATO LIAISON OFFICE SKOPJE which is more representative of its mission.
 
Colonel Aleksandar Aleksandrov, Bulgarian Army, took over the position of Chief NATO Liaison Office Skopjeon July 1, 2012.
 
 The mission is to advise the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Government Authorities on military aspects of Security Sector Reform in order to contribute to further the country’s Euro-Atlantic Integration and provide support to NATO-led operations within the Balkans Joint Area of Operations.
 
NLO Skopje is a non-tactical mission and consists of military and civilian personnel, located in the HN MoD.
 
NATO has an enduring commitment to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*
On April, 1st 2012, NATO mission in SKOPJE was reorganized and renamed NATO LIAISON OFFICE SKOPJE. The new structure remains very similar to the previous one. 

* Turkey recognizes the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name.
