Access Imperatives (TRICARE)

Introduction

The Access Imperatives Web site is provided to assist Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) with improving access for beneficiaries. The goal is to develop a methodology that matches the Right Patient to the Right provider at the Right place and at the Right time. The implementation of processes that improve access to care in the Military Health System (MHS) is one of the top priorities of the TRICARE Management Activity and is under close scrutiny by our beneficiaries and the Government Accountability Office.

This web site contains the supporting documentation for the policies, methodology, business rules, software changes, and training developed to implement improved access to care. Two processes targeted for improvement are schedule development and appointment booking, and the standardization of appointment types, patient access types, clinic names, and other data elements. The objectives of appointment standardization are improvement of beneficiary customer service, simplification of the appointing and referral process, and increased involvement of the MCS Contractor in the appointing process. Additionally, appointment standardization will provide higher quality data for management decisions by all levels of leadership in the MHS.
