Overview
The Department of Defense (DoD) is committed to the health and readiness of the defense community. In addition to providing comprehensive health care services, DoD joins with America’s National Prevention Strategy campaign in the prevention of diseases and injuries and in supporting all aspects of healthy living.
The foundation for healthy living is built on three key areas:
-
Healthy and Safe Community Environments
Many elements of our communities affect health directly and influence individuals’ health-related choices. Leaders play an important role in the health and wellness of service members and their families. The DoD is committed to creating, sustaining and recognizing community and leaders that promote health and wellness through prevention and healthy living.
-
Clinical and Community Preventive Services
The provision of evidence-based clinical and community preventive services and the integration of these activities are important for improving and enhancing physical and mental health. The DoD continues to ensure that prevention-focused health care and community prevention efforts are available, integrated and mutually reinforcing.
-
Empowered People
Policies and programs can make healthy options available, but the choices people make on a daily basis have a strong impact on lifelong health and wellbeing. The DoD is committed to providing tools and capabilities to assist in the maintenance and management of lifelong good health.
