Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard featured in fallen soldier tribute

TWIN FALLS -- The U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard will be featured Friday night during a tribute to fallen Idaho soldiers.

A 15-minute program is scheduled during the PRCA rodeo at the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds.

Rodeo committee member Dan Carter said the committee was asked by the Wounded Warriors Project to organize a tribute to Idaho’s 62 fallen soldiers since Sept. 11, 2001.

Rodeo committee members started organizing the event in February.

“We knew right away that we needed an honor guard involved in it,” Carter said.

After hearing about the U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard, he called the group.

“It just kind of came together,” Carter said.

A lot of work went into putting together the tribute, he said. The production will be held around 8:30 p.m. Friday — halfway through the rodeo.

“Having the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard involved makes it that much more special,” Carter said.

In addition to Friday’s tribute, the group will also post the colors at the start of all three nights of the PRCA rodeo — scheduled for tonight through Saturday.

The U.S. Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard is stationed at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, Calif.

The color guard members ride wild palomino mustangs adopted from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Community members had a chance to meet members of the color guard during a “meet and greet” event Wednesday night at Elevation 486.
