As of March 2008, Japan and Korea are included as TRICARE Overseas Prime Remote locations for all areas beyond 40 miles or one hour travel from a military treatment facility (MTF). Service is restricted to urgent or emergency care. For urgent or emergency cases within the 40 mile/one hour MTF catchment area, the MTF has the right of first refusal. Guam is considered a MTF-restricted country and not part of this program nor is it a TRICARE Overseas Prime Remote country.
