President Obama Salutes Guardsmen and Reservists with Proclamation for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, announced President Barack Obama has signed a proclamation declaring September 16 – 22, 2012 as National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week. The President said the employers of citizen warriors are taking care of those who serve in the nation's military by "hiring and retaining members of the Guard and Reserve, and by creating a culture of military support in the workplace."

United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) President and CEO Javier Palomarez has pledged to sign a Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve to kick off the organization’s 33rd Annual National Convention in Los Angeles, Calif. James Rebholz, National Chair of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), will join Palomarez during the ceremony on September 16 at the JW Marriott L.A. Live.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, will present 15 employers from across the nation with the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the nation’s highest honor for employer support of Guard and Reserve employees. Government leaders, senior military officials and previous award recipients will attend the Freedom Award ceremony on September 20.

Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta will host a remembrance event at approximately 9:30 a.m. EDT on Sept. 11, at the Pentagon Memorial to honor the memory of those killed at the Pentagon in the 2001 terrorist attack.  This is an event for the family members of those lost in the terrorist attack and is not open to the general public. This event will be televised and streamed live via the Pentagon Channel and www.pentagonchannel.mil.

Scott Whitaker, President Marsh U.S. Consumer - Associations, today in Washington, DC to reaffirm Marsh U. S. Consumer support of Veteran and Reservist employment. James Rebholz, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) National Chairman joined Steve McClellan, President of Goodyear’s North American tire unit, today at an event in Akron, Ohio, supporting Veteran and Reservist employment at Goodyear.  During the event, McClellan announced Goodyear’s intent to hire 1,000 veterans over the next three years through its partnership with the United States Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes program and signed a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve on behalf of Goodyear.

The Freedom Award is the DoD’s highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of Guard and Reserve employees. These employers distinguished themselves from the 3,236 nominations received from Guardsmen and Reservists, or family members acting on their behalf.
