Over 150 Years of Midshipman Music Making!

Welcome to the United States Naval Academy Music Department Website and the 2012-2013 Season. Please browse the content of this site to find information on upcoming concerts, events, annual productions, and the wide variety of musical ensembles at the Naval Academy.

The Musical Activities Department is the primary source of Fine Arts education for the Brigade of Midshipmen. For 150 of the Academy's 167 year history, Musical Activities have played a crucial role in the lives and development of midshipmen who have found academic enrichment, leadership opportunities, inspiration, motivation, and camaraderie in its varied offerings.

In a single year, Music Department ensembles will perform for the Brigade and thousands of concert attendees at home, throughout the nation, and around the world. An estimated 150,000 people will see a live performance - and millions will watch on television.

As ambassadors for the Naval Academy the choirs and orchestra will perform for a wide variety of audiences. Attendees annually include the President of the United States, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of the Navy, the CNO, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Senators, members of Congress, world leaders, and the public-at-large.

For the Midshipmen, the various music ensembles provide an invaluable resource during their evolution to become future leaders in the Armed Forces and beyond. In addition to being exposed to military and world leaders, Midshipmen gain strength and confidence by performing for senior officers and their classmates. They are continually taught to strive to work together as an ensemble to create something that is greater than themselves. They are taught to embrace the finest qualities the Naval Academy strives to engender in its own future leaders.

It is with honor, pride and distinction that the Music Department represents the United States, the Navy, and the Naval Academy.
