For those of you in the civilian sector that ask what you can do to support the troops, one thing I recommend is to be a supportive employer of National Guard and Reserve members. For my Reserve/Guard friends out there, please make sure you and your soldiers know what your rights are in regards to employment/reemployment issues related to your service. ESGR is a fantastic organization that has been critical to the role that the Guard and Reserve has played in this last decade of conflict.

And, even if you haven't deployed, perhaps they just make it easy for you to serve in general. If so, nominate them today! www.FreedomAward.mil

  6. Employers who support the National Guard and Reserves should be publicly honored through nominations from America’s military men and women for the Department of Defense Freedom Award, according to Congressman John Carter (R-TX31).
“When emp...loyers go above and beyond in supporting members of the National Guard and Reserve, we need to make sure the entire community knows of that support,” says Carter. “This is a great opportunity for our Texas Guard and Reservists to make known the employers in our state that back our military, by nominating them for the Freedom Award. But the January 21 deadline is just 14 days away so they need to do so immediately.”

The owner was not only honored, but surprised at all the attention. When Sgt. First Class V...incent Lugg left for a year-long deployment, his wife, Denise Drolet, said her boss went above and beyond by doing yard work, shovelling or just taking the time to listen.
"It was just the little things, just him being there, asking how your day was going, asking about Vin and how he was doing," said Denise Drolet.
