Nogales, Ariz. — Customs and Border Protection officers at Dennis DeConcini Port arrested a male Mexican national living in Tucson for attempting to smuggle more than five pounds of cocaine and eight pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

Pilar Agustin Gaspar-Corrales, 44, was apprehended after a narcotics detection canine alerted CBP officers to the transmission of his Ford truck containing roughly $170,000 worth of drugs. Officers seized the vehicle and drugs, and turned Gaspar-Corrales over to the Santa Cruz County Metro Task Force for prosecution.

Individuals arrested may be charged by complaint, the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity, which raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
