8/22/2012 - JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J.  -- Approximately 65 air mobility experts recently wrapped up participation in Air Mobility Command's Global Mobility (GLOMO) Wargame 2012 at the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center here recently.

GLOMO is conducted biannually at the Expeditionary Center by subject-matter experts from across the Air Force, Air Mobility Command, and many other organizations involved in defense planning.

According to Col. Andrew Jillions, Expeditionary Center GLOMO lead, "hosting GLOMO gives us the opportunity to showcase the Center's Total Force mobility and logistics expertise and further develop many of AMC's future concepts".

According to exercise officials, Air Mobility Command's premier wargame validates the transportation and logistics feasibility plan for Unified Engagement (UE), the Chief of Staff of the Air Force's major operational-level wargame. The purposes of GLOMO and UE include enhancing joint and combined war-fighting relationships and capabilities, preventing and or mitigating operational surprise, exploring capability and capacity shortfalls, building and nurturing partnerships worldwide, and developing military professionals for operational and strategic leadership.

"Participants are building plans now they will eventually execute in real-world operations," said Col. Michael Peet, Strategic Planning Division chief for Air Mobility Command. "They effectively met Air Force level objectives for the exercise while also leveraging future AMC opportunities."

GLOMO objectives included shaping AMC's strategic and capability-based planning by evaluating air mobility and logistics concepts and capabilities approximately 12 years in the future. Furthermore, given the future global environment, participants identified opportunities to improve air mobility and logistics effectiveness in meeting warfighter requirements while reducing operating costs through efficiencies.

GLOMO participants examined the command-to-command relationships, and specific applications of command and control , airlift, air refueling, and aeromedical evacuation support. Additionally, participants also explored the operational merits of future concepts such as a medium-sized hybrid airship and a next generation air refueling tanker.

"The results of GLOMO add mobility realism into Unified Engagement and will also provide innovative solutions to meet future air mobility capability gaps," said Brig. Gen. Jon Fago, the GLOMO Director of Mobility Forces

In the Summer of 2014, the Expeditionary Center will again team with AMC to successfully execute GLOMO 14.

GLOMO was a wargame not an exercise. A wargame stresses operational staff-level decision making processes and does not delve into tactical problem sets such as specific points of failure. As such the scenarios and inputs for GLOMO were bigger picture and the scenario only specified to the participants that they had experienced cyber losses and let them develop operational solutions. Those recommended solutions will be teed up to the AMC staff for their situational awareness and as potential ways of continuing the mission in any future cyber-degraded environment.

Does GLOMO account for possible cyber attacks on infrastructure on which AMC and USTRANSCOM depends I mean does the exercise include points where comms is limited or unavailable
