Master Chief Jon R. Taylor is assigned as the Command Master Chief for the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.

Master Chief Taylor, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, graduated a member of the National Honor Society, from J.C. Harmon High School in May 1986.

He entered the Navy in San Diego, California in June of 1986. After graduation from Basic Training, Master Chief Taylor attended CTT/R class “A” school in Pensacola, Florida and Keelan Operator school at Ft. Meade, Maryland.

In August of 1987, Master Chief Taylor reported for duty at Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA), Edzell Scotland and served as a Collection/Signal Analyst until August of 1989 when he entered the Cryptologic Direct Support course in Pensacola, Florida.

After graduating in November of 1989, Master Chief Taylor reported for duty at Naval Security Group Detachment (NSGD), Imperial Beach, California until March 1993. During this tour, he served onboard numerous Navy warships, including the USS MISSOURI (BB-63).

Transferring from San Diego, he reported for duty under instruction at NSGD Winter Harbor, Maine for training as a CLASSIC OWL operator. After graduating as the class “Honor Graduate” in September 1993, he transferred to NSGD Four, Edzell, Scotland, where he served as the System Manager/Collection Analyst for a multi-million dollar CLASSIC OWL system and the Local Area Network. After completing his tour at Detachment Four in October 1996, Master Chief Taylor returned to Detachment Two in Winter Harbor, Maine as a CLASSIC OWL Instructor until his transfer to the USS LEYTE GULF (CG-55) in February 2000.

During his tour onboard LEYTE GULF, Master Chief Taylor qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS), Surface/Subsurface Warfare Coordinator (SSWC), Air Warfare Coordinator (AWC) and Combat Information Center Watch Officer (CICWO). Master Chief Taylor transferred to NSA/CSS Hawaii in August 2003.

While in Hawaii, Master Chief Taylor was the Senior Enlisted Leader for 220 multi-service watch section personnel and Target Dayshop Leading Chief for over 500 joint-service and civilian personnel. Master Chief Taylor transferred from Hawaii in June 2006, and attended the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, Rhode Island, and subsequently reported to the Naval Information Operations Command (NIOC) Whidbey Island, Washington where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader until July 2007.

In August 2007, Master Chief Taylor reported for duty as the Command Master Chief (CMC) of the 6th FLT Flagship, USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC-20) forward deployed in Gaeta, Italy. In September 2009, he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Information Systems. In May 2010, he transferred from Italy, and assumed duties as the CMC of the United Sates Naval Academy.

CMDCM (SW) Taylor’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (with two gold stars), and Navy Achievement Medal (with one silver star).
