As Deputy Commanding General – Military and International Operations, Major General Kendall P. Cox is responsible for policy, programming, and technical support in the execution of over $28 billion of design, construction, and environmental programs for the Army, the Air Force, other Department of Defense and Federal agencies and foreign countries.
Major General Cox’s most recent assignment was as Commanding General of the Transatlantic Division (TAD) which supports the Army Corps of Engineers missions in the U.S. Central Command’s area of operations, consisting of 20 countries from Egypt through the Arabian Gulf to Central Asia. Previously he served for 16 months in a dual-hatted role as the U.S. Forces-Iraq (USF-I) J-7 (Theater Engineer) and TAD Commander, and as the Commander for USACE’s Southwestern Division in Dallas, Texas. Prior assignments include serving as the Assistant to the Senior Military Assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Commander of the 1st Cavalry Engineer Brigade, at Fort Hood, Texas, which included a tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Following command at Fort Hood, Major General Cox was the Director, Office of the Chief of Engineers, with the Army Staff at the Pentagon. He served in that position for seven months before being called back to Iraq to serve as the Reconstruction Advisor to the Commander, Multi-National Corps – Iraq.
Major General Cox graduated from the United States Military Academy and was commissioned a second lieutenant in June 1979. He was initially assigned as a Platoon Leader and later Company Executive Officer in the 3rd Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart. Later he was assigned as Brigade Executive Officer for the 7th Engineer Brigade headquartered in Ludwigsburg, Germany, and after assumed command of D Company, 78th Engineer Battalion in Ettlingen, Germany. Following completion of his master’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Ga., he was assigned as a Department of Mathematics professor at West Point. He then served as aide and executive officer to the President of the National Defense University, followed by Assistant Division Engineer and Battalion Executive Officer with the 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he later returned to command. He spent two years with the Personnel Strength Division, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel in the Pentagon. Following Battalion Command he returned to Germany as an Infrastructure Branch Chief in the J4 Engineer Division, European Command, in Stuttgart.
Major General Cox’s military education includes the U.S. Army War College, the Joint Professional Military Education II course, the Army Command and General Staff College, the Combined Arms Staff School, and the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Operations Research and another Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies.
