Diversity

Diversity at the Air Force Academy Diversity at the Air Force Academy includes more than age, race, ethnicity or gender. It also includes personal life and work experiences, cultural knowledge, language abilities, physical abilities, philosophical and spiritual perspectives, and geographic, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.

The Air Force Academy seeks to make diversity in background and thought an asset toward creating an inclusive environment for both cadets and staff. From the Air Force Academy Admissions Diversity Focus statement: "The goal is for cadets to live amongst many others with dissimilar backgrounds, which will then 'compel them to examine their personal assumptions and philosophies in contrast to those of others.'"

tabChanging Demographics
"By 2020, a third of the workforce will be comprised of 'minorities,' and by 2042, the minority will be the majority. So, given the changing demographics, if an organization ... wants to be relevant and wants to tap the most talented and the best and brightest -- who are our most precious resources -- then you have to go where the talent is."

-- Navy Vice Adm. Anthony Winns
Naval Inspector General
