“Unprecedented Transparency”: Executive Privilege Blocks Fast and Furious Investigation

(WASHINGTON, DC) – President Obama’s campaign pledge to provide “unprecedented transparency” by his Administration is apparently defined as the President claiming executive privilege to deny access to evidence in the Fast and Furious investigation of Attorney General Eric Holder, according to House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31).

“As Eric Holder stood on the verge of Contempt of Congress charges for failure to comply with a lawful subpoena, this President stepped in at the last minute in an attempt to cover up the evidence,” said Carter.  “The President needs to remember this investigation is not about the legality of personnel or administrative activity, this is about the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol officer and multiple individuals inside Mexico under the oversight of the U.S. Attorney General.  This legal maneuver by the Administration has the appearance of an admission of guilt.”

Carter called for the investigation to continue and expand, and supported bringing the Contempt of Charge citation before the full House if passed by the Committee.
