CARTER STATEMENT UPON THE DEATH OF LADY BIRD JOHNSON

Washington, D.C., Jul 11, 2007 -  

House Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) issued the following statement upon learning of the passing of Lady Bird Johnson:

“I join the citizens of Texas, the American people, and friends and admirers from all over the world in extending my sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Lady Bird Johnson.

“Lady Bird Johnson was a charming, gracious First Lady who was a great asset to her family and her husband, President Lyndon Johnson. She loved the beauty of our country and promoted the conservation and beautification of our open spaces, our highways and our parks.

“As my family travels the Texas Highways each Spring and enjoys the glorious Blue Bonnets and Indian Paintbrushes, I often tell my children that we have Lady Bird Johnson to thank for preservation of these flowers of Texas. That is truly a wonderful legacy.
