House Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) made the following statement after President Bush urged Congress to work with him to enact an economic growth package that bolsters the economy.

“I applaud the President for his strong stance on setting a clear and effective goal for an economic growth package that will put our economy back on track.  It is clear that stimulating our economy must consist of tax relief for small businesses and middle-class families, not increased federal spending that will only burden American families.

“I hope Republicans and Democrats will come together and use the President’s plan as a guideline to produce a strong economic growth package that will offer solutions to the everyday economic problems Americans are facing.”
