CARTER SECURES $750,000 FOR SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
06/19/06Washington, DC, Jun 19, 2006 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31), a member of the Appropriations Committee, announced that the House has included his request for $750,000 for Southwestern University in the Housing and Urban Development section of the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, The Judiciary, and District of Columbia Appropriations bill. These funds will be used for the construction of the University’s Center for Lifelong Learning which will house Southwestern’s Paideia Program. The Paideia Program is an innovative national model for education that promotes hands-on learning.
“I am pleased to have secured federal funding for a program that will enhance the education experience while allowing Southwestern’s students to make significant contributions to the communities around them,” Congressman Carter said. “Southwestern University is already recognized as one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the country, and the programs that will take place at the Center for Lifelong Learning will allow it to continue the tradition of teaching excellence in Central Texas.”
On June 14th, The House passed the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, The Judiciary, and District of Columbia Appropriations bill by a vote of 406-22.
