CARTER: "LET'S PUT THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN BEFORE POLITICAL GAMES."

Washington, Nov 5, 2007 - House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee announced they would file a politically-induced report calling for former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten to be cited with contempt:

“Democrats have spent more time this year playing political games than they have spent on protecting American children from online sex offenders, fighting crime and gang violence, and protecting our country from foreign terrorists. These are neglected issues the American people want to see addressed, but the Democrats are putting these critical problems on the backburner so they can pursue politically-charged investigations that fail to produce any results.

“The American people are tired of the political games, and frankly so am I. It is time to for this Congress to stop doing nothing and start working for the American people.”

NOTE: This year, the House Judiciary Committee held more than 15 hearings, meetings and mark-ups regarding the U.S. Attorney removals. The same committee has not considered a single bill that would address violent crime and gang activities. In the first six months of 2007, over 750,000 violent crimes were Committed in U.S. neighborhoods and communities. In addition, MySpace reported that there are nearly 30,000 sex offenders trolling its site. Yet, Democrats have only held one hearing to discuss the danger online sexual predators pose to our children.
