CARTER CALLS FOR INCREASED ENERGY SUPPLIES HERE AT HOME

As Texans continue to pay record high prices at the pump, Representative John Carter (TX-31) today joined House Republicans to unveil an energy plan that would bring much needed relief to American families.  Carter made the following statement:

“Gas in Texas has reached the $3.70 mark and is expected to continue to rise through the Memorial Day weekend.  For years Republicans have brought forth commonsense, environmentally responsible energy policies that would provide our country with its own secure oil and gas supply, but Democrats have put up road blocks to keep these solutions from happening.  Even now, as gas and diesel prices set record highs, the Majority Leadership continually refuses to tackle this mounting problem.

“The truth is simple-Congress must take action to encourage conservation and promote the research and innovation necessary to develop new energy sources and technologies.  But while doing this, we must unlock new energy supplies here at home.  We live in a world where people still put gasoline in their cars and diesel in their trucks, so we can’t expect new technology to take the place of gas and oil overnight.

“Republicans united today to unveil an energy plan that will bring the much needed relief American families are anxious for by safely and responsibly increasing American supplies.  These good reforms are the only way Americans are going to see lower prices at the pump.  I call on my Democratic colleagues to join Republicans and pass these commonsense solutions.”
