9/20/2011 - LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. (AFNS) -- A man and a woman were found dead Sept. 18 in the post office here.
The man, identified as a Defense Department civilian employee who was authorized access to the facility, was found with his wife about 7 p.m.
"We want to emphasize that this was an isolated incident," said Capt. Carla Gleason, the 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs officer. "It was not random, nor did it take place in a public location."
Base security forces officials received a call for assistance in a possible missing person's case Sept. 18 and discovered the couple during a search of the facility.
"I want to express my thanks to everyone who came out to help with this incident," said Maj. Gerald Mulhollen, the 56th Security Forces Squadron commander. "From the Glendale Police Department and the office of special investigations here to the security forces Airmen involved, it has truly been an inspiration to see them working together so well in the face of such a tragedy."
Officials said the post office would be temporarily closed as authorities continue to investigate. As of late Sept. 18, Glendale police officials said they had no leads and would not release the identities of the man and woman. Glendale police officials said they will provide updates on the incident as they become available.
