HEIDELBERG, Germany — Stocks of H1N1 flu vaccine in Europe are not affected by the voluntary non-safety recall of pediatric vaccine announced Dec. 15 by manufacturer Sanofi-Pasteur.

"We do not have, nor have had, any of the prefilled H1N1 pediatric vaccines," said Maj. Michael Ronn of the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Center, Europe. USAMMCE receives vaccine for the entire U.S. European Command area of operations and distributes it to military clinics.

Sanofi Pasteur notified the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration Dec. 7 that the potency in one lot of pediatric syringes that had been distributed was later found to have dropped below a pre-specified limit. As a result of this finding, Sanofi Pasteur tested additional lots and found that three others had been determined to be below strength and subsequently issued their voluntary recall. Safety of the recalled vaccine is not an issue.
