Katrina Claims Information
Claims in Litigation
The Corps has received more than 565,000 claim forms seeking recovery from the United States for hurricane storm related damages. These forms have been electronically scanned and entered into a database, and an acknowledgement letter has been sent to each claimant or to the claimant's attorney, if one was listed on the claim. These claims are currently the subject of consolidated litigation. The latest action occurred at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals (see website at the bottom of this webpage). Until such time as the full appellate process for this litigation is completed, no activity is expected to be taken on any of these claims. For background information on this litigation, please visit http://www.laed.uscourts.gov/CanalCases/CanalCases.htm .
Levee Settlement
Please be advised that the United States is not a party to the class action settlement that has been reached with the state levee boards and their insurer. The United States has instead been dismissed from the Levee litigation, particularly the litigation involving flood damages related to the 17th St., London Ave. and Orleans Ave. Canals. For information on the Levee settlement, please call toll-free 1-888-287-5893, or visit www.LeveeBreachClass.com
