EUCOM Visits U.S. Navy Leadership in Naples
NAPLES, Italy — Adm. James G. Stavridis, commander, U.S. European Command, arrived in Naples, Aug. 13, to meet with locally-based U.S. Navy leadership.
During his visit he met with Adm. Mark Fitzgerald, commander, U.S. Naval Forces - Africa and Vice Adm. Bruce Clingan, commander, U.S. 6th Fleet as well as other senior leadership. He was also treated to a tour of the NAVEUR-NAVAF/C6F headquarters, which was followed by an all hands call where he addressed service members about his vision for the future and the importance of building long-lasting relationships with partner nations.
"I am very proud of everyone in NAVEUR-NAVAF/C6F and in what you are all doing here," said Stavridis. "You are all bridges between our country in the United States and this fascinating diverse continent from which so may of us come from. I want all of you to be thinking of yourselves as part of a bridge between our country, the United States, and this wonderful part of the world we all get to work in...and connecting with our very closest friends and allies like Italy," said Stavridis.
Stavridis is the first admiral to be become the commander of EUCOM, as all those before him have been generals.
