To our prospective residents, thank you for considering our Family Medicine residency.
Naval Hospital Jacksonville (NHJ) located along the beautiful banks of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida, is home to the Jax Family Medicine Residency Program.
It is the oldest and largest residency program in the Navy. Established in 1963 as a General Practice Residency Training Program and revamped in 1969 to reflect the emergence of the Family Practice movement, our program was one of the first to be accredited in the country.
Jax Family Medicine, as it is called today, has a solid tradition of graduating outstanding Family Physicians who practice the full spectrum of Family Medicine from delivering newborns to caring for our oldest patients and everyone in between.
Our highly-qualified faculty maintains an outstanding commitment to resident education, making it a highly supportive place to learn. Our goal is to prepare you to be a caring, compassionate leader who will make a difference in the military communities you serve.
The JFMRP curriculum includes specialized training that is rooted in evidence-based medicine with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. During specialty rotations through multiple disciplines, our residents are taught to perform a wide array of procedures. These include minor surgeries such as neonatal circumcisions and vasectomies, as well as minor skin procedures, colposcopies, exercise treadmills and Advanced Trauma Life Support protocols among many others.
Residents are an integral part of the health care team that puts the patient at the team’s center for improved communication, patient compliance and better outcomes. In addition, our commitment to service excellence instills patient trust, loyalty and satisfaction.
Upon graduation, our Family Physicians competently provide medical care to patients of all ages, anytime, anywhere. Whether it be at a Naval Military Treatment Facility, on the battlefield or assisting with disaster relief, our graduates are prepared for every challenge.
Our Family Physicians do more things and go more places than any other specialists in the Navy.
We invite you to navigate our Web site to learn more about our exceptional program. Please arrange an interview if you are considering us for residency training.
