Pearl Harbor 70th Anniversary Demands Continued National Remembrance

For Immediate Release: December 7, 2011

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The 70th Anniversary of the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor is a call for the nation to continue to commemorate the battle and events that forced America’s entry into World War II, according to House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter.

“Today’s final commemoration ceremony by the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association should serve as a catalyst for the nation to grab the baton our veterans are handing us this year,” says Carter.  “The veterans who fought this battle have followed up their wartime sacrifice with a decades-long commitment to remember not just this horrific day, but the warning signs and events leading up to this attack on our Pacific Fleet.  The lesson they have taught is one that we cannot afford to forget.  Sadly, their declining numbers have necessitated this as the last ceremony of their great organization.   It is time we stood up to continue these annual remembrances to honor the heroes who paid for 70 years of freedom that we all have enjoyed.”
