OHRID, Macedonia – On Monday, September 26th, the U.S. Embassy opened a conference entitled “The Legal Aspects of Combating Terrorism and Cyber Crime” at Lake Ohrid.

Five American subject matter experts brought to Macedonia by the Defense Institute for International Legal Studies are discussing the complexities and challenges of law enforcement in cyberspace as well as examining cases studies covering notable terrorist acts.

The goal of the conference is to have participants examine the effectiveness of their national laws, develop basic capabilities in combating cyber crime, and foster interagency cooperation within their governments. This event also serves as an excellent venue bringing together civilian and military officials from several nations to build trust, mutual understanding, and relationships for future cooperation.

Thirty participants from Macedonia include representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Army of the Republic of Macedonia, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, and Intelligence Agency.  Fourteen participants are from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, and Slovenia. The conference runs through Thursday, September 29th.
