OUTSIDE SINAIA, Romania - May 6, 2012 - Members of the Special-Purpose Marine-Air Ground Task Force Black Sea Rotational force 12 came to the aid of a Romanian family who lost control of their vehicle during a rainstorm on Romanian highway E60. After leaving the road the vehicle penetrated a guardrail and came to rest 500 meters down a steep embankment trapping the family.

Elements of BSRF 12, a limited crisis response force currently in the region, were returning from a weekend marathon and recreational event when they observed a number of civilians gathered around the destroyed guardrail unable to reach the family on the hillside below.

The sailors and Marines of BSRF 12 negotiated the steep embankment in an attempt to aide the family of four. The man, woman, a small child and an infant were safely removed from the vehicle and were administered first aide.

Fortunately for the trapped family, members of the BSRF 12 Forward Resuscitative Surgical System/Shock Trauma Platoon, a portion of the unit's self contained deployable medical team were amongst the members attending the marathon.  The American servicemembers remained on scene until local Romanian emergency medical treatment arrived.

The Black Sea Rotational Force is a Special-Purpose MAGTF with crisis response capabilities deployed to the region to enhance interoperability, promote regional stability and build camaraderie amongst the forces.
