DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam Sponsors Far East Music Festival

TORII STATION, OKINAWA , JAPAN — April 18, 2005 — DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam will sponsor the 26th Far East Honors Music Festival at Yokota Air Base beginning April 25 and ending on April 29.

Student musicians, from 13 DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam schools, will participate after completing a stringent audition process which began last November with preparation of an audio recording by each instrumentalist and vocalist. The judging of the instrumental recordings was performed by members of the United States Air Force Band, while vocal judging was completed by elementary and middle school music educators.

Approximately 170 student musicians will meet at Yokota Air Base. They will spend four days rehearsing, completely immersed in the music. On April 29th at 7:00 PM in the Taiyo Community Center on Yokota AB , students will have the opportunity to show their dedication and commitment to music. The concert is free and open to the public.

“I wish to thank the teachers and parents for making these experiences possible for our students. Their dedication to the arts and music serves as an inspiration and supports our commitment to providing our students with opportunities to enjoy and participate in performing arts. Best of luck to all our participating students and schools,” said Dr. Nancy Bresell, Director, DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam.
