The Defense Logistics Agency’s new director of logistics operations told DLA Troop Support employees he wants to know how he can help enhance the organization’s mission to support warfighters during his first visit there, Sept. 24.

“The J3 is here to assist and help,” Army Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dowd said during the construction and equipment portion of introductory briefings. “Tell me how DLA Headquarters can help.”

Dowd and Dana Fuller, special assistant to DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek, met with representatives from DLA Troop Support’s five supply chains and the Customer Operations Directorate.

Dowd came to DLA in August after commanding 1st Theater Sustainment Command at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. During his command, Dowd oversaw the drawdown of military equipment and movement of personnel from Iraq.

Dowd, who noted he was born at Abington Memorial Hospital, less than seven miles from DLA Troop Support’s Philadelphia headquarters, was also the U.S. Central Command logistics director from 2007 to 2010.

“I have great respect for what you all do,” Dowd said. “The products coming out of here are excellent, the planning very responsive. … DLA has a great reputation.”

He also urged the supply chains’ leaders to work on communicating with their customers.

“Keep telling our story,” Dowd said. “Educate them on what we’re trying to do and what DLA can do for them.”
