Past, present leaders honor DLA vice director at retirement celebration

Defense Logistics Agency leaders past and present honored the agency’s retiring vice director at a celebration March 2 at the McNamara Headquarters Complex. Mae DeVincentis ended more than 37 years of federal government service, all of them with DLA.

DLA officials encourage employees to participate in Telework Week 2012

Defense Logistics Agency officials are encouraging employees to pledge to telework more during the week of March 5-9, which has been designated Telework Week 2012. The week is the federal government’s effort to encourage agencies to support teleworking.

DLA scores high in ‘Best Places to Work in the Federal Government’ survey

DLA has once again been ranked as one of the best places to work within the Defense Department by the Partnership for Public Service. In the 2011 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government survey, DLA placed higher than 60 percent of other organizations.

Several leaders moving to new positions, organizations in agency

Several DLA team members are taking on new leadership roles, according to an email DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek wrote to senior leaders Feb. 28. Matt Beebe, Army Col. Jan DeMartini, Simone Reba and Bob Foster are all assuming new roles.

In 1975 when Mae DeVincentis started as a GS-2 clerk for the then-Defense Personnel Support Center Clothing Factory, she couldn't have imagined being a senior leader in the Defense Logistics Agency. But she retires March 2 as the agency's vice director.

Montana fire department finds ladder truck through DLA Disposition Services

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation has a new ladder truck thanks to Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services’ Firefighter Excess Property Program. It received the truck through DLA Disposition Services at Anchorage, Alaska.

Glass laminate cover adapted by DLA saving money, protecting MRAP windows

An idea used by stock car racers and adapted six years ago by the Defense Logistics Agency for use on military helicopters has now been introduced for use protecting the expensive window glass on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles in Afghanistan.

USTRANSCOM commander, DoD logistics leaders visit DLA Headquarters

The commander of U.S. Transportation Command and other DoD logistics leaders visited the Defense Logistics Agency Feb. 23 to discuss distribution initiatives and operations as part of the Distribution Process Owner Executive Board meeting.

DLA Logistics Operations director to lead Army Aviation and Missile Command

Army Maj. Gen. Lynn Collyar, director of DLA Logistics Operations, will become the next commander of Army Aviation and Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., the Defense Department announced recently. Collyar will replace Army Maj. Gen. James Rogers, who plans to retire.

Open communication highlighted in USNS Comfort, DLA Troop Support meeting

Members of the DLA Troop Support Medical team met Feb. 9 with newly assigned USNS Comfort personnel to discuss support of the hospital ship during peacetime and in contingency operations. Open and ongoing communication is imperative, officials said.
