MEDITERRANEAN SEA (March 10, 2011)-Chief Hospital Corpsman Michael Young teaches Boatswain Seaman Reginald Scott proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52). American Heart Association developed the first CPR guidelines in 1966. During the past 50 years the fundamentals of early recognition and activation, early CPR, early defibrillation, and early access to emergency medical care have saved hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. Barry is on a routine deployment conducting maritime security operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
