Humanitarian and Health Activities, Outreach and the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine (CDHAM) conducted key leader engagements in Mali last week for the Pandemic Response Program. The team met with the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission, OSC and USAID Deputy at the embassy. The team then conducted meetings with Medical and Logistics officers from the Malian military to discuss their epidemic response plan and potential future assistance that AFRICOM may provide to improve their response capacity.
The team also attended some portions of the Trans-Sahara Security Symposium conducted for Mali by Special Operations Command Africa (SOCA and Development Alternatives, Inc, which was held at the Ecole de la Maintain de la Pax. The symposium focused on human development issues affecting extremism and instability, development of civil-military capacity and promotion of new strategies and cooperation among stakeholders. The outcome of our engagements with the Malian military is that we will continue to work together on the goal of improving Mali's Pandemic response capabilities.
