The U.S. Africa Command Humanitarian Activities Workshop Series (HAWS) was conducted from 2-3 February 2011, at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center in Accra Ghana.
Key staff from the Security Cooperation Programs Division (SCP) Humanitarian & Health Assistance (HHA) Branch organized the HAWS, and were assisted by presenters from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and U.S. AFRICOM Engineering and Medical staffs. Country Team Members representing the West/Central Region (DRC, Mali, Chad, Togo, Benin, Niger, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Gabon, Angola, Cote dIvoire, and Ghana) attended the HAWS.
Attendees were provided with the HAWS 2011 Reference Guide. Following a key note speech by HA Branch Chief, Dr. Diana Putman, country team members were provided instruction on: HHA Branch Programs Processes and Phases; The Overseas Humanitarian Assistance Shared Information (OHASIS) System; USAID topics; NAVFAC and USACE contracting processes; U.S. AFRICOM Engineering processes; and U.S. AFRICOM Medical processes.
Country team members also participated in a HHA project case study designed to reinforce information provided during the HAWS. HAWS attendees indicated that they were very satisfied with the content of the workshop and the added benefit of building relationships with HAWS attendees.
