Army Medicine

To provide the most comprehensive dental care possible to our Soldiers and their families, you’ll be able to practice your specialty in modern facilities that utilize state-of-the-art technologies and techniques. You will also have many opportunities to travel. The U.S. Army maintains modern dental facilities both here and abroad, in countries as diverse as Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan and Korea. You will also have the opportunity to take part in humanitarian efforts, providing care to underserved patients in different parts of the world. But there are even more ways a U.S. Army dental career can broaden your perspectives.

Depending on your specialty, you’re likely to be exposed to every major facet of dentistry: diagnosis and treatment, oral surgery, fixed and removable prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics and preventive dentistry. The corps comprises nine specialties, from general dentistry to oral pathology, to public health and beyond. And because the Army Dental Corps promotes dentistry as a complete health care system, nearly all dentists who make the U.S. Army a career receive specialty training.

The Army Dental Corps also teaches more residents than any other institution in the country. The Army’s Specialty Residency Programs are second to none, with its graduates regularly scoring in the top 95th percentile. All programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association and meet the requirements of the Dental Specialty Boards. The Chief of Service in each of our residency programs is certified by the appropriate specialty board, with all program associates either board-certified or board-eligible.

Dentists with the U.S. Army Medical Department see a wide diversity of patients and conditions, employ advanced technologies, learn about new treatments and work with some of the best specialists anywhere. And since our dentists are also commissioned U.S. Army officers, they enjoy both the responsibilities and the rewards of leadership. See why dentists at every stage of their careers are choosing to serve as members of the Army Dental Corps.
