U.S. Africa Command Health Engagement Visit to Sao Tome and Principe and Gabon
Two International Health specialists from the International Health Programs branch, Medical Division, Operations and Logistics Directorate, US Africa Command Headquarters, travelled to Sao Tome and Principe and Gabon from 30 Aug to 11 Sep 2009.
The purpose of the visit was to perform a health engagement in which the capabilities and capacities of the military medical services of both countries as well as their strategic goals and objectives were reviewed.
Travel dates were 30-31 Aug, 6 and 10-11 Sep.
They were accompanied by personnel from the Security Cooperations branch at the US Embassies in both countries.
Information obtained from the visits allowed determination of feasibility of access to healthcare in the area for any of our people that may be conducting operations there.
Additionally, the data gathered will allow determination of appropriate opportunities for cooperative and collaborative health activities that will help move the countries in a positive direction towards attainment of their strategic objectives while also supporting US Africa Command's Theater Strategic Objectives.
The team was invited to and attended the observance of the Sao Tome and Principe's Armed Forces Day on 6 September.
