PEACHTREE CITY, GA — May 9, 2006 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mr. David Witte has been named principal of Wassom Middle School, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

"Dave Witte comes to Campbell with an outstanding reputation as an educational leader," said Fort Campbell Community Superindendent Martha Brown. "He has a deep appreciation for the uniqueness of our population - the military child - and a proven track record for leading schools that attend to those needs. We're looking forward to his joinging the Fort Campbell School leadership team."

Witte earned his bachelor's of science degree from Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont, in 1971. Commissioned into the U.S. Army Infantry Branch in 1971, he spent 10 years in the Army Reserve. He taught math for three years in Northfield, VT, before going to Germany to teach with the dependent schools in Europe.

Witte began as a math teacher and coach at Baumholder High School. After earning his master's of arts degree in counseling and guidance in 1981 from Ball State University, he served as a counselor at Baumholder from 1982 to 1984, and a teacher and counselor at Patch High School, Stuttgart, for four years. He then joined the administrative ranks as assistant principal at Mannheim Elementary School, where he served for six years. He was at Heidelberg High School for two years as assistant principal. In 1996, Witte was promoted to principal at Vilseck Middle High School and in 2000 was named principal for Wuerzburg High School. In 2001, Witte resigned from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) to return to the United Sates where he is currently an assistant principal at Coople Middle School, McLean, VA, part of the Fairfax County Public Schools.

Witte and his wife, Janice, who is the Director of Children and Youth for DoD at the Pentagon, have two grown sons, a daughter-in-law and a grandson.
