Mortgages, providing them and buying them, along with business lending and compliance issues were on the agenda Friday at the Congressional Caucus, the last day of the gathering at the Mayflower Renaissance in Washington, D.C.



Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) shares why a military background brings what he says is a different and needed approach to congressional decision making.



Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.) took the mic before NAFCU emcee Dan Berger had even begun his introduction. “I don’t need an introduction,” joked the well-known credit union supporter.



Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said without availability to credit, small businesses are twice as likely to fail as those that have credit access.



Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) prepared a PowerPoint presentation for his speech, in which he tried to drum up support for his bill, H.R. 3644, which would shift the risk of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guarantees to private investors.



Ted Tozier, president of Ginnie Mae, shared information about his organization and proposed more Ginny Mae-credit union securitization partnerships.



Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas) said he’s heard the compliance burden has grown so big for financial institutions, some have to devote more employees to compliance than lending.



Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) he thinks the U.S. must lower its corporate tax rate in order to compete globally.

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) said the future of member business lending legislation will be on the next House Financial Services Committee Chairman’s plate. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) is expected to take control of the committee in the next Congress. Hensarling addressed the Caucus on Thursday.
