I can help obtain answers or facilitate your requests to move your mailbox, change your address, resolve mail delivery issues, and address USPS employee grievances. In addition to what you see below, please contact one of my district offices with questions you may have or to request personal assistance with a matter pertaining to the USPS.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the USPS

As a general rule, mailboxes can be moved only for individuals who have physical conditions that inhibit their ability to retrieve their mail. However, the USPS considers mailbox placement requests on a case-by-case basis.

According to USPS regulations, a curbside mailbox must be placed to allow safe and convenient delivery by carriers without leaving their vehicles. The box must be on the right-hand side of the road in the direction of the carriers travel on any new rural route or highway contract route, in all cases where traffic conditions are dangerous for the carriers to drive to the left to reach the box, or where their doing so would violate traffic laws and regulations. (USPS Regulation DO41, 2.7 )

I think my mail is being tampered with. Where should I report it?

If you suspect your mail is being tampered with, contact your local Postmaster as soon as possible. The Suspicious Mail publication provides examples of mail that should be regarded with caution. The Security Mail Center also issued the following publications addressing mail security issues:

I am having mail delivery issues that I have not been able to resolve with my local Postmaster. What can I do?

You can submit a completed Privacy Authorization Form to one of my district offices to initiate an inquiry

I am a postal employee and have a grievance. Can you help me?

My office offers assistance to those postal employees who utilize the USPS Equal Employment Office (EEO) mediation program as well as those who pursue a case with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Postal employees engaged in either of these processes can submit a Privacy Authorization Form to one of my district offices.

Please note: Under the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, I am not permitted to act as your legal representative or provide legal advice; therefore, a congressional inquiry should not be used in place of an attorney or other representative in EEO or EEOC matters.

How do I file a Postal Insurance claim?

You must file a claim by completing a Form 1000 in person at your local postal office. You must file immediately when the contents of an article are damaged or missing. You will need to provide evidence of package insurance, evidence of the package value, and proof of the damage or loss. A properly completed and supported claim is usually paid within 30 days.
