132nd Fighter Wing
The 132nd Fighter Wing, located at the Des Moines International Airport, is a fighter unit operationally gained by the Air Combat Command. It can trace its roots back to February 1941 with the establishment of the 124th Observation Squadron. Since then, the 132nd Fighter Wing has participated in numerous actions including World War II, the Korean Conflict, and many of the support functions of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. The 132nd Fighter Wing's F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. Its mission is to provide a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations.
