The military community and those organizations providing support are really a tight-knit community. We must rely on each other to serve the greater good of service men and women as well as their families.

If you or someone you love has an invisible wound of war, reach out for help. Resources are available and they work. The Real Warriors Campaign, sponsored by the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE), provides resources for service members, veterans and military families including:

• DCoE Outreach Center:  The DCoE Outreach Center allows anyone to confidentially speak with a health care professional 24/7 by calling 866-966-1020, by using the online live chat feature (http://realwarriors.net/livechat), or by emailing resources@dcoeoutreach.org. The Outreach Center is free, confidential and available from anywhere in the world, day or night.

• Video Profiles: At the center of the campaign are Real Warriors who are proving through example that reaching out is a sign of strength. The campaign website (http://realwarriors.net/multimedia) includes videos and public service announcements featuring these Real Warriors who have continued to lead successful military and civilian careers after seeking care or support for psychological health concerns.

• Articles: The campaign website (http://www.realwarriors.net) features more than 90 articles for members of the military community at all stages of the deployment cycle, from pre-deployment to reintegration. Articles cover many topics, including an overview of combat stress (http://realwarriors.net/active/combatstress/overview.php), preparing for deployment (http://www.realwarriors.net/active/deployment/preparedeployment.php) and applying for a discharge upgrade (http://www.realwarriors.net/veterans/discharge/upgrade.php).

• Message Boards: Campaign messages boards (http://realwarriors.net/forum/) provide a forum for members of the entire military community to engage with one another directly. Join the conversation and start your own dialogue with veterans and their families!

• Mobile site: The campaign’s mobile site, m.realwarriors.net, provides service members, veterans and military families with access to campaign resources wherever they are through their smart mobile devices. Using the mobile site, anyone can access the DCoE Outreach Center live chat, as well as campaign video profiles and public service announcements, articles and materials.

All service members should know that they and their families should feel comfortable reaching out to their units and chain of command for support. Reaching out is a sign of strength that benefits yourself, your family and your unit and service!
